I had a wonderful time! Dia was very helpful and supportive while creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. It was like sitting down with an old friend, but with watercolors. I was a little nervous since this was my first very public outing since COVID, but she's very sweet and put me at ease. I learned a lot about my technique and she provided informative feedback. I left feeling a lot better about my abilities.

My parents met on a beach in La Jolla as teens in the early 1940s they married, built their home there in 1958, when I was 4 years old. I grew up there, my children would visit their grandparents there. My parents are gone now. I own the house now and my parents great grandchildren come to visit me. So many beach memories now! Taking a walk through wild flowers blooming above the beach is still a delight to me at age 70. And being able to use watercolor to paint the beauty I grew up with is

I recently began to study watercolor and oil painting so that I could create art from my landscape photos. I take classes at a neighborhood studio together with young children, teens and a few older people like myself and have learned more in a few months than I ever imagined. This photo was taken from the parking lot at Cabrillo Lighthouse and painted in watercolor a few month later. While I have hundreds of digital photo images, I have only a handful of paintings making them so much more preci

Title or Location: The photo which is referenced in this watercolor was taken at Aoraki/ Mt Cook National Park by Kavan Chay which made the cut for the 2024 Milky Way Photographer of the Year international competition.
I have always loved watching the milky way, its the brightest out at sea. I have never been able to capture it with a camera. I had this idea in my head about painting a red house on a lonely hill with the milky way above it showing how small we are compared to the universe. Then I came across this shot taken out at Aoraki/ Mt Cook National Park by Kavan Chay and it was like the universe had heard me and given me a reference photo. the watercolor looks nothing like the original photo but I love
